A Jewish merchant of Wenatchee, Washington, Nathan Ignatius Neubauer (1870-1966) originally founded the Wenatchee Department Store in 1902, later selling it to the J.C. Penny Company in 1941. Neubauer's other business interests included the Mission Investment Company and the Neubauer Building Company. He was married to Sadye Harris; two of their children were Marcus and Ronald.
